The U-shaped toe design gave a unique appearance that reflected the Western Native American moccasins. As years passed, work became more industrialized and farming became less and less common. The work boot was soon adopted by workers in construction and became an industry icon.

I've had a pair of Chippewa boots for a few years, but I found myself wanting some boots in black. Moc toe seemed like the right style, but since I wasn't really sure if I'd want them for years and years I decided to try out Golden Fox rather than a standard like Thorogood. In summary, these are a good purchase for the price. The leather is obviously not going to last as long as that on my Chippewas, but that's expected from comparing $75 boots to $180 ones. It still is *ok*, but these aren't boots I'm going to get resoled and pass down to my son.The sole claims to be oil-resistant, but that's incredibly not true: I was cooking while testing these out and the bit of oil splatter from the stove that got on our hardwood gave me less traction than when I'm in just socks. I didn't buy these for grip (when I need that, I have my lugged Chippewas), but I think it's worth mentioning.Walking was a bit weird at first, I think because of the angle of the wedge sole. After a few wears it felt natural though. My main annoyance is with the speed hooks. There are only two sets, and upping that to three would make putting on the boot much easier. They are also too close together, so I often end up hooking two hooks at the same time. The purpose of speed hooks is to make it faster to put on your boots; in this case, it's still faster than traditional lacing, but with these minor adjustments it would be significantly better.Overall I'm quite happy with these as a $75 pair of boots - I think they're a good buy if you want a pair of boots that aren't terrible but don't need to invest in something for the long term.
